Latest transfers and transfer rumours

Despite an apparent financial crisis teams around Europe are set to bring in new recruits this January. Some big players could be on the move this January.

Two of the teams in the bottom half of the Premier League have already made big loan signings. Wolves have signed Arsenal’s promising young midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on-loan until the end of the season.



The 19 year-old has made a decent start to his top flight career with the Gunners and he will gain valuable experience at Molineux.



Another promising youngster who has made an early move is Manchester United striker Federico Macheda. The 20 year-old has moved to QPR until the end of the season. The Italian striker has been frustrated by the lack of first team chances at Old Trafford and spent a spell on-loan at Sampdoria last season.



Everton have completed the loan signing of American international Landon Donovan from MLS champions LA Galaxy. The attacking midfielder will be with the Toffees until the start of March, when he returns to the USA to start preparing for the new MLS season.



Swansea have pulled off something of a coup by signing highly-rated Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim. The former-Reading star arrives on-loan until the end of the season. The 22 year-old cost the German Bundesliga side £6million when he arrived from the Royals but injury has hampered his time in the German top flight.



Swansea have already agreed to sign Rory Donnelly from Irish club Cliftonville for an undisclosed fee and Sigurdsson’s international teammate Eggert Jonsson from SPL side Hearts. Swans boss Brendan Rodgers seems determined to strengthen his squad in this window.



Rumours



The Welsh club has also been linked with free agent Kris Boyd. Boyd was released by Turkish club Eskisehirspor at the end of last month and is currently looking for a new club. Boyd who is still the SPL’s all time leading scorer has also been linked with a move to cash-strapped Everton.



Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing striker Darren Bent from Aston Villa. The striker guarantees you goals and Liverpool have struggled to find the net until recently. According to reports the Reds are set to offer £24million for the England international star.



Blackburn centre-back Christopher Samba is being linked with a big money move to Tottenham. Rovers are in financial trouble and could be forced to sell some of their star assets. Samba is one of Rovers key players. The sale of Samba would probably raise about £8million.



Argentinian Maxi Lopez has been linked with a move to AC Milan but as revealed on Soccernews earlier the striker is unlikely to move to the Rossoneri. However the Catania striker is now being linked with a loan move to Premier League Everton.



Chelsea are being linked with a £25million move for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain. The Argentinian international has had to play second fiddle to Frenchman Karim Benzema this season at times and could be looking for a move to gain regular first team football.



Doncaster striker Billy Sharp is believed to be interesting Premier League clubs West Brom and Norwich. The striker has proved himself to be a prolific goalscorer in the lower leagues and it seems he could now get his chance at the top level.
