Blues prepare second Willian bid

Chelsea have failed in their attempt to sign Willian from Shaktar Donetsk.

The Blues were reported to have tabled a £16.6 million bid for the Brazilian playmaker but the offer was rejected because it is some way off Shaktar's valuation.

While the club are keen to hold onto the 23-year-old, CEO Sergei Palkin admits Willian is keen to move to Stamford Bridge but a deal will only happen if Chelsea are prepared to meet their asking price.

"We have no burning desire to sell the player, but in football some things are impossible to avoid," Palkin is quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

"If it weren't for our good relationship with Chelsea - and Willian does not hide his intention to test himself in one of the best clubs in the English Premier League - we would insist on the £29m release clause written into the player's contract.

"It is important to understand that we are talking about Chelsea's desire to buy Willian, but not Shakhtar's desire to sell him."

It has since been reported that Chelsea are preparing another offer for the Brazilian.
