Deaf Woman Assaulted

ARLINGTON, VA. (WUSA) - We're learning about a disturbing sexual assault that took place in Arlington over the weekend.



The victim's disability created an unusual challenge for investigators.



Police say the victim in this case is a woman in her 20s who is Deaf and does not know American Sign Language. So investigators had to write down their questions for the traumatized woman and wait for her to write out her answers.



"She was dropped off by a cab at the Rosslyn Metro station, where she went underground to catch a Metro back to her residence in Alexandria," said Dustin Sternbeck, spokesman for the Arlington County Police.



In the early hours of last Saturday morning, the victim was returning to Virginia after a night out in District of Columbia.



"Upon learning that the Metro wasn't going to arrive in a short amount of time, she resurfaced to street level, attempted to find a cab again drive her back to her residence, and was grabbed and pulled into an alley by the suspect," said Sternbeck.

CNN - Deaf motocross rider Ashley Fiolek won't let her disability keep her from dominating the Vice-Versa MX women's circuit. Ashley is not only making waves as a female rider in the male dominated sport of motocross, but she's doing it without the ability to hear.

Deaf Woman Attacked by Pit Bull

LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) - A 59-year old deaf woman who lives in an assisted adult care home because of her special needs is in the hospital after being mauled by a pit bull. She couldn't hear the dog coming or even form the words to say help.



Tony Simpson, who witnessed the attack, tells WDRB News, "I've never never seen nothing like that."



The two-year-old pit bull named Rambo sits quarantined in a steel cage at the Breckinridge County Animal Shelter.



Stacey Lucas and her fiance Tony Simpson say the last time they saw the dog in Cloverport, it was trying to tear Shirley Sturgeon apart.



Simpson says, "The dog was literally just eating the woman. He was not just biting her. He was tearing her meat off and swallowing it."



Shirley Sturgeon lives at Breckinridge Manor. She is deaf and was walking down a road Saturday on the way to a friend's house. It was just about a block from her home that Rambo attacked as she walked up the road...

Tacoma, WA. - KIRO TV’s investigative unit has discovered Tacoma police used force to arrest and handcuff an innocent Deaf woman after she called 911 for their help.



She called for police assistance after a guest reportedly attacked her in her own apartment. Deaf since birth, White used a special video-equipped phone, connected to a TV and a Web camera, to call 911. A certified American Sign Language interpreter on the other end verbally relayed White’s pleas for help to a Tacoma police dispatcher.

EL SERENO, LOS ANGELES ABC/CBS - A Deaf woman and her dog were attacked by a neighbour's American Pit Bull Terrier in El Sereno Saturday morning. The woman's dog, a Chihuahua named Muffy, had to be put down.



From what it looks like on the CCTV, it was all the Deaf ladys fault right Pit Bull supporters??! "They've attacked the mail man, they've attacked dog, they've attacked other people that are walking their dogs, as well as people that were just walking," said Rene Uribe, a neighbour.
