ABC7 Exclusively Interview With Dr. Angela McCaskill

WASHINGTON - (ABC7DC) - Dr. Angela McCaskill speaks out about Gallaudet dust-up. In her first interview since controversy erupted at Gallaudet University, the school’s chief diversity officer who was placed on leave for signing a petition to put Maryland’s same-sex marriage law on the November ballot says she's not anti-gay and feels bullied.



Angela McCaskill sat down exclusively with ABC7’s Mike Conneen at her home in Upper Marlboro to respond to criticism for inking the petition.



“Signing that petition is a right that I have as a citizen of the state of Maryland. It simply means that I want to see this very sensitive issue put on the ballot as a referendum in the state of Maryland,” McCaskill said.



Her attorney, J. Wyndal Gordan, says McCaskill will not express her personal view on the matter. He says she will do that in the voting booth. ANNAPOLIS, MD. - Dr. Angela McCaskill speaks out on bullying by Gallaudet University president. So far, the best argument for protecting marriage may be sitting in the President's office of Gallaudet University. There, voters got a unique view of the real-life persecution that awaits anyone who opposes Maryland's same-sex marriage. Last week, when Gallaudet's Dr. Angela McCaskill was outed for signing a Petition in favor of a public vote on marriage, she was exiled from the University she called home for 23 years. Now, instead of sitting in her office helping students, she's meeting with attorneys, trying to come to grips with President T. Alan Hurwitz's decision to banish her from campus. Calling McCaskill's actions "inappropriate," Hurwitz is putting a face on the intolerance that FRC and other marriage advocates have warned about for years.



By all reports, his ruthlessness is already taking its toll. According to her pastor, Rev. Dr. Lee Washington, Dr. McCaskill and her family have been the targets of threats and intimidation ever since the story broke. "As her church family, we stand firmly by her side and welcome all persons of good faith regardless of their ideological views to denounce these actions of cowardice and bullying." Even the The Washington Post warns that Gallaudet's overreaction could seriously "undermine" the effort to redefine marriage. "The surest way to repel voters--and to vitiate the marriage movement's broader goals and values--would be to say, or even seem to say, 'Agree with us or else.'"



Unfortunately, that's always been the underlying, totalitarian message of the homosexual movement. The only difference here is that Maryland voters have been warned: public dissent will not be tolerated. Not surprisingly, liberals are racing to cover up Gallaudet's mess, insisting that they believe in free speech as much as the next guy. Tell that to the wedding cake bakers, the T-shirt makers, the bed and breakfast owners, the military chaplains, the high school teachers, the restaurant owners, the photographers, the churches, the Massachusetts parents, and others who were fired, sued, harassed, fined, and suspended. Like Angela, their biggest crime was having an opinion contrary to the radical Left--something one former FRCer knows a lot about.



When Teresa Wagner left Family Research Council, she had plenty of offers to join university faculties and teach law. A graduate of the University of Iowa, Wagner joined the staff as a part-time associate director of its legal writing program. She also applied to be a full-time teacher at the law school, but her application was mysterious denied. It wasn't for lack of experience, since Teresa was the most qualified candidate. Nor was it for lack of legal expertise, since the person offered the position "had never practiced law, had no legal publications, and had no prior successful teaching experience." Teresa will try to prove as much in federal court, where her appeal kicks off today. Although people have sued for discrimination in hiring decisions, experts say Teresa's case is the first of its kind. Unlike other plaintiffs, she has evidence. Like Angela McCaskill, Teresa Wagner belongs at the University. Until then, both women are giving students a serious education in political bias. 'Everyday is Carly Day' - Featuring Carly Stong in which a video clip was under FIRE for flubbing a many wrong gestures of dirty signs and insulted the ASL-Culture community.



Numerous ASL-users community have objected to the video clip on the grounds that it features incomprehensible signs that from Carly Stong's 'How to Talk Dirty Without Saying a Word' which this is a saddening testimony to how ignored and oppressed the ASL-users community. Carly is just bad in signing and her selection of really mocking and ludicrous phrases to "teach" to the public shows a huge disrespect for ASL-users and Deaf people.



Deaf viewers are outraged by nonsensical signing claiming 'How to Talk Dirty Without Saying a Word', which leading campaigner who want a good quality of learning american sign language for deaf and hearing adults as Carly claimed.



Deaf viewers said incoherent video clip makes second-class citizens out of disability sufferers, ASL-users community view is that what Carly is doing is a classic case of exploitation and wrong message to the hearing people who is learning in ASL. This is a phrase and no-so-subtle message for Carly Stong, who butchers and disrespects the langauge of the american sign language community for cheap laughs.

Cochlear Implants are a Form of Child Abusing

On the surface, cochlear implants sound like a promising medical solution to the problems surrounding hearing loss or total deafness. A cochlear implant uses existing nerves and electronic signals to override damaged auditory nerves, thus restoring a sense of hearing to the recipient. However, this technology has also caused serious divisions within the Deaf community concerning the hearing society's position on deafness in general.



A number of members of the hearing impaired community choose to view their Deaf status as a subculture of society, in the same sense as a Hispanic person would embrace his or her Hispanic culture. Deafness is not a handicap person, but a shared experience which gives the hearing impaired its unique cultural identity. To members of this Deaf subculture, cochlear implants are considered disrespectful and insulting, since the medical community views deafness as a handicap which must be treated or corrected. Certain factions of the hearing loss also believe a deaf person's ability to live a full and meaningful life is not compromised by his or her deafness, so the suggestion that cochlear implants provide advantages over a Deaf lifestyle is shortsighted and insensitive. Many Deaf people cope very well with their deafness, learning sign language and lip reading and adapting their work and home environments to accommodate their loss of hearing. Another controversy surrounding cochlear implants is the safety and effectiveness of the procedure. Cochlear implantation involves major surgery in an area of the body filled with delicate nerves which control facial movements. One mistake during surgery could cause long-term facial paralysis, also and it is might be a risk to cochlear implant users where the thunderstorms approaching as seen on: Cochlear Implant User Struck By Lightning



Cochlear implants can also destroy any remaining healthy auditory nerves, which means a Deaf person could lose all remnants of natural hearing which may have helped them adjust to a Deaf lifestyle. Cochlear implants require the recipient to undergo significant fine-tuning sessions, and success can vary widely from recipient to recipient.



The controversy over cochlear implants often pits hearing parents against Deaf parents when it comes to raising their Deaf children in a hearing world. Many Deaf parents would prefer to raise their Deaf child in a Deaf culture, including the use of sign language and lip reading. Hearing parents who are not familiar with the Deaf community may opt for the cochlear implant surgery to correct their Deaf child's perceived handicap as seen on article: Cochlear Implant Cruelty -deafness.about.com



The result may be a Deaf child who can partially hear, or a hearing child with a Deaf cultural heritage. Either way, the child may face social ostracism from both communities if the parents do not consider the long-term effects of cochlear implant surgery. Not all members of the Deaf community view cochlear implants as an unnecessary procedure, but hearing parents facing a difficult decision concerning a Deaf child may want to research both sides of the controversy before committing to cochlear implant surgery. What Is the Leading Cause of Child Abandonment?

History of Abandonment/Abuse



History tends to repeat itself and this is especially true of abuse and neglect patterns. Parents who experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment at the hands of someone when they were a child are more likely to repeat the pattern and abuse, neglect or abandon their own children. UNICEF estimates that 13 million children worldwide have been abandoned by both parents for various reasons, abuse and neglect among them. Handicap/Illness of Child



A child born with a handicap, birth defect or chronic illness has a higher chance of being abandoned by their parents. Since infants and children are needy to begin with, parents living with a child with a chronic condition may not be able to cope with the increased demands of their child. Like parents who live in poverty, these parents believe their child will be better off without them and abandon these child to the foster care system or to live with other relatives.



Behavioral Problems



All children experience behavior problems as they grow and learn about the world around them. For some parents, their child's misbehavior is a source of extreme stress they are unable to handle. Other parents have children with extreme, even criminal, behavior that they are unable or unwilling to control. These children are at an increased risk of being removed from their parent's care or having their parents find alternative placement situations for them. Oppression At West Tennessee School For The Deaf

A terror of oppression and audism at West Tennessee School for the Deaf (WTSD), which state-operated elementary school for Deaf children ages 2 to 13 from throughout west Tennessee in Jackson.



Regarding to the terrbile story that the Deafies to pay the visit at WTSD, all of suddenly the staff's rude attitude toward a deaf visitor and discriminated ASL users, and kicked out for no reason. However, a vlogger felt an insulted from the WTSD staff members and decided to posted a vlog.



We (deafies) should make effort to visit Deaf schools when we travel to some states. Good reminder to all of us. We need to watch out for red flags so we can stand up and protect Deaf children. The Deaf community agree with vloggers that there is something wrong with that school. The way how they treated deaf visitors is quite alarming because if they showed no respect for you as a Deaf adult then their treatment to Deaf children could be far worse.



WTSD's web-site says "An Individual Education Plan is developed for each student enrolled at WTSD. Total communication is used throughout our program by all staff members. Small class sizes and individualized programs aid in the success of our students. Continuous collaboration between teachers, speech pathologists, and audiologists provides optimal information for instructional programming." Is that a joke? watch the vlogs and weep.

The Fight For A School's Future

Rocky Mountain Deaf School is trying to purchase vacant property from a local school district to build a school of its own. But a group of neighbors calling itself 2090 Coalition circulated a petition to force a vote to overturn the property's rezoning, claiming that the land belongs to the city of Lakewood.



The coalition used paid petitioners who were overheard lying to voters about what the petition is about. The coalition itself is also lying to Lakewood citizens by claiming a vote in favor of overturning the rezoning will save "open space." If the rezoning is overturned, the property will NOT remain open space, but will return to K-8 zoning and still belong to Jefferson County Public Schools.



The first portion of this video shows the current facility RMDS is in. The second portion consists of interviews with two RMDS supporters who personally heard and witnessed misconduct by the coalition's paid petitioners.

The Election Committee of the National Association of the Deaf voting system fraudulent ??? How does the voting system works during selection of NAD Officers. Questions about how the delegates are supposed to do at NAD Conference. Numerous of Deafies heard about the voting had been rigged.

The Deaf Community keeps hearing different stories such as favoritism and fixture but a certain if they all are true, however, one source said the voting system can be cheated when the ballots are counted to choose by the NAD staff. It is damaged now and it is disgusted for the Deaf Communties and will fight it in next election of 2014. The thing is it's the special interest groups such as Z|CSDVRS keep NAD positions in their hands for a number of years. Way too long. They should allow others to run NAD for a change. People's rationale about being a delegate but sit is according to the NAD bylaws that change comes through the State Associations. CSD has been harboring NAD and weakening its system for over a decade! NAD Voting System - Number one important - first thing - let us all focus to see if NAD will do fix the bylaws - Voting systems need to change asap!

Deaf viewers outraged by bizarre and confusing on Dirty Signs With Kristin.

This vblog discussing to support of the petition we hopeful that we can recognize that we may overlook after a video publication, the video on the internet was met with a strong reaction from the ASL-speaking community. Many members of the community have objected to the video on the grounds that it features incomprehensible signs that from Kristin Henson's vlogs "Dirty Signs" which this is a saddening testimony to how ignored and oppressed the ASL Deaf community.



Last a few weeks ago, A Deaf vlogger's name is Victoria just released video with captions to response for "Dirty Signs With Kristin" - Featuring Kristin Henson in which a video was under fire for major mistake for flubbing a many wrong gestures of dirty signs and insulted.



Kristin Henson's vlogs has attracted an audience of more than 1,5 million and 11,615 subscribers but Deaf viewers are outraged by nonsensical signing claiming 'Dirty Signs With Kristin'. Leading campaigner who want a good quality of learning American Sign Language for the Deaf and hearing adults as Kristin claimed "About Kristin Henson Page" Deaf viewers said incoherent videos makes second-class citizens out of disability sufferers, for instance one of vlogger who is a hearing person view on Kristin's videos as seen: A phrase in ASL just for Kristin Henson



Kristin Henson, who butchers and disrespects the langauge of the American Deaf community for cheap laughs and her 15 minutes of fame. Kristin Henson is selling for a profits from ASL and culture which she conisdering the publish the book "Kristin Henson's Super Smutty Sign Language" and the "Dirty Sign with Kristin" videos in which has no right to sell her book and stuff when she not know much about ASL or know how to sign language in right way, somehow, ASL Deaf community view is that what she is doing is a classic case of exploitation.

Hi, my name is Victoria, I am a culturally Deaf person and use ASL as my primary language of communication. About your dirty signs videos... to begin with, I feel pretty sad about it all.



Don't get me wrong, I have the best sense of humour ever. My Deaf friends and I love getting creative with our signs; but trust me, the shit we come up with trumps yours infinity times. Kristin, what you're doing is IGNORANT. It doesn't help Deaf people at all. We get enough shit already when it comes to paternalism, audism, cultural oppression, phonocentrism, and general ignorance.



You responded to one person's comment on your "bitch, please" video: "Hi there! I noticed you've been commenting on quite a few of my videos that my ASL is wrong. As per the video description, I don't claim to be a licensed interpreter and I'm definitely still learning, but I'm always welcome to corrections. It seems like you're more interested in making general comments that I'm wrong and I shouldn't be making these videos, instead of actually helping me fix my signs, so I'm going to block you now. Sorry for the offense, and I wish you all the best!"

How patronizing, you need to check your hearing privilege. Acknowledging your incredible shortcomings does not make what you're doing at all right. You don't seem to be listening to Deaf people at all, so why would anyone of us want to correct your signs? you use our language the language of an oppressed minority as a way of perpetuating racism, sexism and audism. I am a Deaf woman, do you really think I will want to carry on a conversation with a hearing person who thinks it's funny to learn signs like: "fucking you is like throwing a hotdog down a hallway" or even more galling "less talk, more anal."? Disgusting!



What the hell? even today, we are STILL fighting for the right to use our language. ANY public use of sign language is fraught with deeply political messages. When I use American Sign Language in public, amongst hearing people, it is an act of disobedience and resistance against "The Man". You're not doing shit to help Deaf people in this regard. You're only making a joke of ASL, and reducing it to signs that befit the paternalistic view of Deaf people as objects to be manipulated.



As my friend Elena commented on the dailydot article about your videos, "but language is never removed from cultural politics, especially if you go on to commodify it. Quite frankly, you're doing it wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. you're teetering the line of contributing to the cultural-linguistic appropriation of ASL and consequently U.S. Deaf culture as a whole."



There is a difference between "cultural appropriation" and "cultural exchange." What you are doing is not cultural exchange. If it were, you'd have amongst other things captioned your videos to make them accessible to Deaf people. Also, your disclaimer says, "I am not trying to disrespect anyone in the process of making these videos, I'm simply trying to have fun with my friends and learn ASL." If it was just with your friends, why put it all on the internet if not as an attention-seeking manoevre? you are simply exploiting Deaf people and Deaf culture for internet popularity. And now that St. Martin's is intending to publish your smutty signs book, you are also exploiting us for financial gain. that's awful!



The best way to learn ASL, Kristin, is to participate in the Deaf community and make Deaf friends. Stop posting unfunny and offensive shit on the internet and have real conversations with Deaf people. ASL is so much more than a badly executed "twat waffle" and the internet needs to know that, too.



Just stop. Don't be just another hearing person denying Deaf people their voice.
